stopped. There was no anger, no swell of heat and burst of fire. That would come later. In the hours to come, Hans would dispel his grief into ash and flame, and he would call for the woman’s execution. No trial. Just quick, effective death.
But for now, there was nothing. Hans felt less than empty, he felt… gone. His fires extinguished, his thoughts swirled away like smoke. He watched passively through his own eyes as his body moved down the hall.
His wife. His child. Someone had sought to end them both. Why? They were innocent… His baby was innocent. Why end a child’s life before it could begin?
What would he have done if he’d lost them?
He would have died. Of that, Hans was certain. Perhaps not right away—he would have buried himself in his work, gone mad with loneliness and grief. He would have drunk himself into a rage, and roared with fire until he blinked out of existence.
In all his life, Elsa and their baby were the only people who ever loved him—the only people he ever loved. To lose them would be to lose everything. Everything. Perhaps he would still have his crown, but Hans no longer wanted that crown if he could not pass it on to the child in Elsa’s womb.
He reached the infirmary at last. Hollow and weightless, he went to the bedside and fell beside his Queen.
“Elsa…!”

Elsa knew that, while there were many in the kingdom who wanted her to sire an heir, there were those who did not want such a thing to occur. They saw her as an abomination and the idea of HER bringing children into this world disgusted them. There was a large chance that her child would have her powers ( or her husband’s ) and that very idea terrified and repulsed them.
However, even with this thought lingering in the back of her mind, she was still quite surprised that someone would be so furious and revolted as to attack her and her child. How could anyone do such a thing? Her child was innocent. How could anyone end a life ( a life that was so utterly loved and cherished ) before it even started?
And so, as she sat in the infirmary, Elsa wrapped her arms around her belly, as if to protect her child from Death. Sobs escaped her lips. She almost lost her child. THEIR child. Another set of sobs escaped her lips as she did her best to not collapse in on herself.
When she heard Hans’ voice and felt his weight on the bed, she looked up and reached for him. Immediately, she wrapped her arms around her husband’s neck and began to babble.
❝She’s okay, I swear to you. She’s okay. We’re here.❞ She repeated these words over and over again, as if to not only reassure him, but to reassure herself.
