{♔} —- Hans did not fail to notice how Elisabeth reveled in his praise. She really was just like her father; uncertain, needy, and desperate to be loved. Of all his children, Elisabeth needed the most care, the most cherishing—and Hans did not mind lavishing her with all of the affection his own father never gave. The affection every child deserved.
And then… There it was. Her smile. That beautiful, terrible thing that could break his heart and stitch it back together again. Hans cupped Elisabeth’s face and leaned forward to place yet another kiss to her brow.
“And the Isles will love you,” he promised. “They see your sister as Arendelle’s Queen… but you will be their princess. They will tell tales of your beauty and long to catch just a glimpse of your face. Little Islean girls will want to dress like you, wear their hair the way you do, wave to you when we pass by in our carriage… And for a few months, at least, Mama and I won’t have anyone to dote upon except you. It’ll be wonderful, dearest. You’ll see.”
Her smile widened even more. While it pleased her to know that the citizens of the Southern Isles loved her ( not that she needed her father to tell her this ), it pleased her even more to know that she had her parents to herself. Even if it was for a few months, she had her mother and father to herself. She could spend time with her mother and not have to worry about Amelia or Alexander taking attention away. She and her mother could finally well and truly rebuild their relationship.
❝Mama promised she would take my one of my tutor’s place so we can spend more time together.❞
